The North British is Scotland’s third largest grain distillery, and is the only one that continued to use maize after all of the others switched to wheat.

Our 35 Year Old release was distilled in 1988 and has spent it’s lift, quietly maturing for us in a ‘refill barrel, (the finest, hand-picked obvs) until we bottled it. We’re expecting to fill around 274 bottles.

One of only six dedicated grain distilleries in Scotland, the North British distillery was founded in a bid to challenge the monopoly the Distillers Company Ltd. had over the supply of grain.

The distillery was built close to the railway lines and Union Canal, with ample room for expansion, which was quickly needed. Its name comes from the railway company that served the distillery. It’s also known as the NB locally.

NOSE

Vanilla wafers dipped in milky breakfast tea, soft oak and pineapple rice cream

TASTE

Less sweet on the palate with custard and spice along with all the gorgeous signs of maturity, warehouse, oak and time.

ABOUT THE LABEL

One of only six dedicated grain distilleries in Scotland, the North British distillery was originally founded in a bid to challenge the monopoly the Distillers Company Ltd. had over the supply of grain. Our original label brief showed a slightly sinister character, possibly somebody in charge of a very large and potentially evil organisation. There's probably no link between the whisky and the label though. Probably.

In our glorious core Blended Grain lilac we’ve brought this Bond villain like character, complete with his white cat, front and centre. That’s no villain though, he looks like a lovely chap…
