This 70cl release of a 10 Year Old Mortlach, started life in the industry standard refill hoagie before we popped it into an ex-rum cask.
Mortlach’s main claim to fame, production wise, is as the home of the most devilishly complex distillation regime in Scotland. It’s also one of the distilleries to use a traditional wormtub to condensate the distillate.
The Mortlach distillery lies in Speyside’s spiritual heartland, Dufftown, and holds the honour of being the first legal distillery to be built there. It was founded in 1823 - the year of the Excise Act
Long fermentation and clear wort is the start of production, but then things are a little different. While there are three wash, and three spirit stills, they don’t work in pairs as you’d expect. It all adds up to the new make spirit having been distilled 2.81 times.
We’re expecting around 371 bottles of the rumtastic Speysider
NOSE
Big, bold, and fruity! Dried fruits; Raisins and prunes, Caramelised pear, toasted almonds, with hints of chocolate and ground coffee.
TASTE
It’s bold on the palate too. Thick and oily. Fruit and nut chocolate , Coffee grounds and dark wood, with some spicy cinnamon, hints of liquorice, with a long fruity finish.
ABOUT THE LABEL
Mortlach is known as ‘Beast of Dufftown’ because of the whisky's robust, muscular character. We took some poetic licence to this, and created our very own beast, stalking the streets of Dufftown for the original label.
For our new look label, we’ve adopted the blue of our core Speyside single malt, and brought our Dufftown beast, front and centre, in a mug shot pose. I love how it’s hanging onto to the label frame
