Puni
DISTILLERY: Puni
ABV: 46.1%
AGE: 4 Years
CAT: Italian Malt Whisky
BATCH: #2
RRP: £74.95
A second batch from Italy’s Puni distillery, and it’s a four year old that has had a sherry cask finish.
Their striking distillery design, a 13-metre tall red brick cube is unusual, as is the combination of three malted cereals in their mash bill recipe.
PUNI is the first Italian whisky distillery. Spirit first flowed from their Scottish copper pot stills in 2014
Puni produce malt whisky, but malted barley is only one of the three cereals in the recipe. The other two are malted rye, and malted wheat. They have, since 2016, have also been producing 100% malted barley spirit too.
NOSE
Malty, Digestive biscuits topped with blackcurrant jam. More sweet notes follow, with hints of wild strawberries and some nutty, woody spices.
TASTE
The malty biscuit notes are followed by a fruity sweetness, nicely balanced with some woody spices. A medium length finish with some chilli chocolate.
This is seriously gluggable!
ABOUT THE LABEL
Our inspiration comes from the ‘Spaghetti Westerns’ and we settled for one of the most well known, and loved ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’
We asked Emily to recreate the movie poster with the three male dogs on our original Puni label. Seeing as none of them are ugly, or indeed bad (perhaps a little mischievous at times) we ended up with the Good boy, the good boy, and the good boy.
Hilarious!
