Muscat vines have been cultivated in Australia for about 100 years, and several different wine styles have been developed.
The Corowa distillery, founded in 2010, operates in an old heritage listed flour mill, in the heartland of New South Wales, by the banks of the Murray River.
Corowa is surrounded by the Rutherglen wine region, home to many fortified wine makers and the source of many of Corowa’s barrels. The area north of Corowa is a renowned grain growing region, the barley used is sourced from either the family’s own farm, or other local farmers.
NOSE
Bitter chocolate, molasses, Medjool dates, figs, with hints of white pepper, flint, and wild fennel .
TASTE
Big, bold, and fruity! Dried fruits; raisins figs, dates. Malt loaf, and a mineral spice with a hint of ginger too. The long finish leaves a mineral, flinty spiciness and some bitter chocolate.
This is really tasty!
ABOUT THE LABEL
Our label inspiration for this whisky from down under is ‘Mad Max.’ - Well it had to be didn’t it? It was either that or The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
A cult movie from the late 70s that we’ve reimagined to ‘Mad Racks’ after learning that Corowa recently expanded their warehouse creating lots more racking. with their Dreaded Distiller, Beau taking the lead role on the label
