An elegant eleven year old Balblair that we’ve bottled at natural cask strength. Distilled in June 2011, it spent all of it’s eleven years in an ex-Bourbon barrel. We’ve bottled this at natural cask strength.
Balblair is amongst the oldest distilleries of Scotland, beginning in 1790 (although there is evidence of an even earlier start)
Although now a single malt with it’s own brand, the majority of the whisky made still goes towards the Blended Scotch industry.
Clear worts, long fermentation in wooden washbacks, and distillation in small, stumpy stills produces a richly fruity new make character alongside a sulphury/meaty note.
Did you know that the Balblair distillery was one of three distilleries that featured in Ken Loach’s film ‘The Angels Share’
NOSE
All the bananas! Green banana, foam bananas, and there’s even some banana custard! Vanilla with a pinch of pepper, and some caramelised apple.
Delightful!
TASTE
Sweet and creamy. Vanilla custard, white chocolate, Chai Latte, green banana, a little herbal, and a good pinch of pepper.
Loveable!
ABOUT THE LABEL
Inspiration for our Balblair came from ‘A Clockwork Orange’ with a smattering of ‘The Angels Share’ - Tenuous, yes. Very.
Charlie McLean played the whisky expert in the Ken Loach movie, which is exactly what he is in real life. Our label is unmistakably Charlie, with his signature monocle and mustache, in a very similar pose to the Clockwork Orange book cover. The orange is also an Irn Bru reference to the Angels Share movie….
