It’s our second batch from this Swedish distillery that has a bit of a cult following. Our first release disappeared rather quickly.
This 8 Year Old was fully matured in a first fill bourbon barrel, and we’ve bottled this at natural cask strength.
This is a very typical example of the Smogen whisky style, clean, crisp and very drinkable. Lively citrus notes come out with dilution. Equivalent to some of the single cask version Smogen have released themselves that are sold out quickly here.
Our label shows distillery founder Par Caldenby standing on Hållö Island next to the lighthouse. And what’s that bird flying overhead? Is it an Arctic Diver bird spreading some ‘luck’ on the label?
Nose
Crisp and clean. Vanilla and oak with a splendid hit of earthy coastal peat.. Hints of green banana and peanut brittle
Palate
Chocolate and malt, with hints of strong sweet coffee. Peppery spices linger with some charred lemon zest.
About the Label
Sweden's Smögen distillery resides on a farm near Hunnebostrand, and was named after the small island of Smögen which is also nearby
Hållö Island is a small rocky windswept island in Smögen, and is home to a historic lighthouse.
