ABOUT THIS BOTTLING
This 19 Year Old Ledaig from the Isle of Mull’s Tobermory distillery is our nineteenth batch. Distilled in December 1997, It’s been matured in a single Sherry butt, and we’ve bottled it at natural cask strength.
The Tobermory distillery, founded in 1798, was originally known as the Ledaig distillery. Ledaig is pronounced something like ‘led-chig’ and means safe haven in Gaelic. The distillery closed in 1930, and remained closed until 1972 when it reopened as the Tobermory distillery.
The distillery today runs two distinctly separate distillations; peated spirit for six months of the year, and unpeated for the remainder. Single malt is released under both names, with Tobermory being reserved for the unpeated versions.
NOSE
An oily maritime smoke drifts through an autumnal walk in the forest. There’s a damp wood, leafy forest floor feel to this, alongside hints of rich marmalade and cinnamon buns
TASTE
The oiliness continues with the mouthfeel. Sweet ‘Juicyfruit’ gum with peppery spices and a pinch of salt. Finishing with a lingering beach bonfire smoke.
Classic Ledaig!
ABOUT THE LABEL
Most audio available today is compressed to create a smaller file, losing quality and fidelity along the way. That’s not the case with this release, which is presented in its original, unadulterated format.
Ledaig is undoubtedly one of the most mispronounced distillery names in Scotland, but nothing’s been lost in translation here, we even have a waveform of the correct pronunciation displayed on our label.
