ABOUT THIS WINE CASK SERIES BOTTLING
It’s another first, and another new label for this German distillery. Our expression of Saillt Mòr, “Ralph Hauer”, has been matured in an ex-sherry cask, with a Bourbon cask finish - oddly, an unconventional order to most whiskies matured in both cask types!
We’ve bottled this at cask strength - 64.1% abv
There’s a long distilling history to tell here, when the licence to distill was granted in 1602!
Distilling from grain was forbidden on that original licence, but plans for a whisky distillery were drawn up in 2009.
The name Saillt Mòr [sɛːlt moːr] comes from Gaelic and means “large saltworks” because the largest of the former 7 salines (graduation towers) ran on the site of the distillery today.
About the Label
Our label story has a 1600s Baroque feel, referencing the long history of distilling in the region. The first licence to distill was granted in 1602!
We’ve got distiller Ralf Hauer playing the part of fruit harvesting, distilling, sampling maturing stock, and climbing to the top of the Bad Durkheim saline graduation tower.
Their own whisky is released under the name Saillt Mòr [sɛːlt moːr] which comes from Gaelic and means “large saltworks”.
