The Tomintoul distillery in Speyside was founded in 1965, and plenty of their stock ends up in blends, though the whisky that doesn’t is very enjoyable indeed. In fact, they have presented it as “The Easy Drinking Dram” and “The Gentle Dram” over the years. This is the label that keep on giving. Not only does it have a free cocktail recipe courtesy of the gents behind Edinburgh's Bramble Bar (featured on the label), but you'll also get a free "that's not a Bramble!" cocktail if you present the voucher on the back of the label to these chaps.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Autumnal fruits like damson and sloes, stewed fruit strudel with vanilla ice cream with an underlying minerality which emerges after time.
Palate: Initially dry leading to a bouquet of juicy red fruits, with sweet vanilla flavours arising.
Finish: A warming, sweet finish; fruity jam and freshly baked scones.
