Glenlivet is a distillery with a long, long, long history, and we've hinted at an interesting part of said history on the label our our very own bottling of Glenlivet single malt. Y'see, after the Excise Act of 1823, founder George Smith became the first licensed distiller in the parish of Glenlivet, which made him quite unpopular with illicit distillers. In fact, he carried around a pair of pistols just in case any of the aforementioned unhappy illicit distillers attacked him.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Well balanced, but complex, with rich dark fruits; Cherry, Blueberries, Blackcurrants and Toffee apple, alongside notes of coffee, leather, beeswax, polished wood and dark chocolate, with hints of both liquorice and aniseed.
Palate: A little livelier than the nose suggests, more tropical fruitiness with pink grapefruit and tangerine initially, some gentler orchard fruits follow. Slight oakiness coming through towards the end sweetened with brown sugar
Finish: Woody spices and charred wood
