The Brora distillery was, in fact, not originally called Brora at all. When it was founded back in 1819, it was actually called Clynelish - sound familiar? Well, the distillery we know as Clynelish today was opened in the 1960s, and the old Clynelish was given the new name Brora! They continued to distill as Brora until 1983, when they closed their doors for the last time. It’s sad, as many loved the intense, muscular malts of Brora, which is what the rather miffed feline on the label of our Brora is a reference to. Here’s a pretty sweet lifehack: if you ever see a wildcat which looks this angry, you should probably run for your life.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Robust coastal smoke, zesty mango, apricot and warm caramel.
Palate: A big wave of sooty smoke arrives on the palate, along with more vibrant fruits for balance.
Finish: Very long with smoky embers, along with a touch of toffee pennies.
