The BenRiach distillery was founded late in the 1800s, though was closed in 1900 and remained shut until the 1960s! Since then it has picked up where it left off over 60 years ago, producing whisky in the Speyside region, and they even have their own malting floor!
Monkey shoulder is a debilitating ailment which brought misery to hundreds of distillery workers in 'the olden days'. It was caused by the repetitive and strenuous exercise of turning the barley on the malting floor, and resulted in the worker developing an unsightly and uncomfortable 'hump' on their shoulder.
We've made light of it by showing a monkey in need of a massage on this label.
