A glorious 33 Year Old Glen Garioch, drawn from a single hogshead that was distilled in December 1988. By our calculations, it’s actually a 34 Year Old, but we had our label idea before disgorging the cask, when it was a 33 Year Old….
Glen Garioch (pronounced ‘Glen Geery’) lies at the village of Old Meldrum in Aberdeenshire, and was almost one of our ‘lost distilleries’
This is OLD SCHOOL Glen Garioch, from when the distillery was floor malting their own malt, and using highland peat. Single Malt from Glen Garioch today, is typically unpeated, but smokey notes can be detected in whisky distilled before 1994. It was originally lightly peated to 8-10ppm. too.
NOSE
This is waxy. Overripe apples, green bananas, and hints of camphor, chalk, perhaps a little piney, and some fresh bread dough.. Wow!
TASTE
Just sublime! That waxiness comes across to the palate too, mulled cider, with dried peel, apricot compote, and white pepper. The finish is long, fruity, honeyed, and a little peppery spice.
Oh, my… I think I’m welling up!
ABOUT THE LABEL
Our label inspiration comes from cult move ‘Inglourious Basterds’
There’s a scene in this movie where the difference between the German and the British/American way of signalling 3 catches the spy out when calling for a whisky.
Our label has three of our team on it; Ryan, Hannah, and Emily on. Emily and Hannah are our label brief ‘killers’ - they always bring our ideas into reality, and Ryan - well he’s a replacement for the original Glen Garioch label Ryan, and our token Irishman for our ‘therdy thirds’ joke… Shocking!
